China Energy News' observation of the second Quality Innovation (Suzhou) Forum, held on October 27 at the Tiancizhuang campus of Soochow University under the theme "Electricity, Computing Power and National Strength", released the report "The Quality Era of Electricity and Computing Power" and argued that quality is shifting from the final inspection gate to the centre of the chain, embedding into every stage of energy production and computing operation. Kenya's power association CEO said about 81% of Kenya's electricity comes from renewables such as geothermal, hydro, wind and solar, with geothermal alone contributing roughly 40%, yet system losses remain more than 21% above the regulatory benchmark, outages continue to trouble users and many companies now build their own solar and backup generation, framing the green transition's first half as done and the quality-improvement second half as only beginning. Forum figures showed average annual outage hours for ordinary electricity users in China falling from about 905 hours in 1991 to under 7 hours in 2024. Experts said distribution networks and microgrids will become the construction focus of new-type power systems, with supply shifting from one-way to two-way and source, grid, load and storage jointly balancing, while full-time-span storage, electricity-hydrogen coordination, grid-forming technology and AI-supported energy management systems are becoming important guarantees for safe grid operation. During the forum, the China-Central Asia Water Conservancy and Electric Power High-quality Co-development Promotion Working Group was established. Azerbaijan's renewable energy agency said its 100 MW Gobustan solar plant was commissioned in September this year, with Caspian offshore wind and cross-Black Sea transmission channels under planning, and that Azerbaijan is exploring a memorandum of understanding with the association.
